Publishing an eBook and publishing a paperback may appear similar, but they are very different processes.
An eBook must adapt to different screens, font sizes and reading applications. Readers control much of the appearance themselves.
A paperback is fixed.
Margins, page size, chapter placement, typography, page numbers and blank pages all have to be considered before a book is sent to print.
Even small changes can affect the final page count.
Digital and physical editions therefore need to be prepared differently rather than treating one as a simple copy of the other.
The objective is for both versions to feel like complete books in their own right.
Some readers prefer carrying an entire library on an e-reader.
Others still want the weight of a book in their hands.
There should be room for both.
